M751 – Praying hands Whitmore/D_rer bookplate bookplate

Product Description

This bookplate was introduced by the Antioch Bookplate Company in the late 1950s and adapted by Yellow Springs, Ohio, artist Robert Whitmore from the famous Albrecht Dürer illustration. Robert Whitmore also created the popular design B252. According to Antioch founder Ernest Morgan, “Albrecht Dürer and his brother lived in 15th century Germany. They both wanted to be artists, but did not have the money to go to school. Albrecht’s brother “drew the short straw” and Albrecht got to go to school. When he was done (or so the story goes) his brother’s hand had become so knotted and stiff from the years of work that he could not cut it as an artist. Albrecht then painted the famous painting as a lasting tribute.” Upon request, we can remove the “From the library of” text and replace it with the text of your choice.

Bookplate Specs

This design is 4 inches high and 3 inches wide. It will be custom printed with the name or text of your choice on non-glossy, self-adhesive paper with a peel-off backing. The paper, adhesive, and ink are archival quality and acid-free. Unless otherwise requested, these are printed on cream-colored paper, similar to what is shown here.  If you choose brown ink, both the artwork and your text will be printed in brown.
